While I have talked about baby reflux remedies colic together, baby reflux deserves its own space.
⚠️ Because medication for baby reflux is overprescribed.
And hey! I made a video about three natural baby reflux remedies (scroll down 👇).
Baby reflux symptoms
It’s worth understanding that baby reflux works on a spectrum. And so when we’re using medication, this is for infant GERD (gastroesophageal reflux disease).
The key difference here is “disease.”
When a baby reaches a GERD diagnosis, this usually indicates baby reflux to the extreme.
Baby reflux symptoms:
- Frequent regurgitation and vomiting
- Coughing, choking, and hiccups
- Swallowing difficulties
- Intense crying
Baby GERD symptoms:
- Infant distress and inconsolable crying
- Irritability
- Difficulty sleeping
- Excessive regurgitation
Having a sense of what’s “normal,” but still hard, can help to give parents some peace of mind. And instead of trying prescription acid reflux medicine for babies, you can explore the following baby reflux remedies.
Summary of baby reflux remedies
- 60%–70% of babies who are 3–4 months old have baby reflux.
- Prescription acid reflux medicine for babies is not a ✨root cause✨ solution for baby reflux. And it may even make tummy troubles worse.
- Relaxation of the sphincter of the esophagus may cause reflux.
- When it comes to the baby gut, traditional Chinese medicine (TCM) already knows that muscle tone may be lax. So fortunately, we have herbs for this! 🌿
- Probiotics may improve baby reflux.
- 🐮 It’s important to consider allergy, which means any immune response. For baby reflux, the most common trigger is cow milk protein.
- If your baby also also has eczema, there’s a greater likelihood that baby reflux is linked to food allergy.

In the video above, I talk about the three potential causes of of baby reflux. Along with some solutions.
How to soothe baby acid reflux
- Use prokinetic Chinese herbs: Prokinetic TCM formulas strengthen muscle tone, move food through the esophagus, and improve what’s called “gastric motility.” Which describes food moving through the gut.
- Use an infant probiotic: Probiotics are pro kinetics! Meaning a good gut bacteria supplement can soothe inflammation and improve gut motility 🥳.
- Remove triggers from diet, with a 1 week reintroduction period: Cow’s milk is the most common trigger. If breastfeeding, you can start with baked cow’s milk first.
